Life Is A Gift
Life is a gift. We’ve all heard that saying before, but do we really believe it? So many of us live our lives in the fast lane, constantly looking for something better. With that in mind, I’d like to offer a bit of advice that we all can live by.
Today, before you open your mouth to say anything unkind or out of anger, think of someone who cannot speak. If this were your fate, how would you choose to speak?
Before you complain about the quality of your food, think of the billions who have nothing to eat. The children who starve from malnourishment. Should you feel grateful or feel irritated because something doesn’t quite meet your expectations?
Before complaining about your wife or husband, imagine someone who is simply longing to have a companion. They envy what you have, no matter how irritated your spouse may make you.
Before you start complaining about your life, contemplate those who passed away far before their time. Every breath you draw is a gift.
Instead of being quick to complain about your children, imagine the people who are dying to have their own, but cannot. Your children are a gift.
As irritation wells in your heart because your house is unkempt and no one seems to help you keep it clean, imagine those who have no home to keep clean. You are lucky to have a home.
Before you complain about how far you travel to work, think of those who walk the same distance with their feet. Not everyone has transportation so readily available, you’re lucky.
When you feel like complaining about your job, think of those who have none or the disabled individuals who would love to have your job.
Before you are quick to judge and blame another for your pain, recall that not one of us is without sin or imperfection and we all answer to the same creator.
When the world seems to overwhelm you and your mind can do nothing but think of the bad things in your life, put a smile on your face and thank God that you are still breathing and living life.
Put simply, life is a gift we are all given. It is up to us to live to the fullest, enjoy every moment, celebrate our blessings and fulfill our dreams. Gratitude is what separates the successful from the unsuccessful, and we all have to make a choice to feel it.
Gratitude is a conscious effort to feel positive about what we have, is it a choice you’ll make today?
